Overview

When a couple is trying to have a child but their attempts fail for months in a row or even for a year, there is a very good chance for something to be wrong. That something is called infertility or, subfertility and represents the inability to conceive a child within one year. It can have one cause in either one of the partners or, two or more factors that prevent pregnancy or stop it.

Sterility is the physical impossibility of a man or woman to have children. Infertility does not mean that procreating is impossible, as in the case of sterility, but just that it is harder and challenging.

What to expect about infertility?

The cause of infertility can be discovered in approximately 85-90 percents of the couples and through appropriate therapy, other than fertilization in vitro, more than half of the cases get to the desired result; pregnancy. Even more, 15 – 20 percent of the cases diagnosed as infertile, will eventually procreate without benefiting from any sort of treatment.

Complications

Infertility has no physical effects but it may have psychological ones on the couple or on any one of the partners, which may be harm for individuals themselves as well as for the couple.
