Effects of Insemination On Infertility Issues
The chances of getting pregnant increase when using insemination techniques especially if they are used with superovulation.
We will give the following success rates following the conceived pregnancies without taking into consideration the miscarriages.
Unexplained infertility treatments
- - Chances for pregnancy are higher for IUI with superovulation then for AI with superovulation.
- - Scheduled intercourse, IUI and AI without superovulation have an 8% rate per period.
Treatments for sperm problems
- - IUI has a pregnancy rate of 6.5%, which is double then the rate of AI and scheduled intercourse (3%) in case of mild male infertility.
- - If IUI is used with superovulation, it only increases a little the chances of pregnancy in case of mild male infertility.
Treatment for infertility caused by endometriosis
Women suffering from mild endometriosis have a double chance of getting pregnant if using IUI with gonadotropins superovulation.
For infertile couples, a second IUI in only one period has no benefit for the chances of achieving pregnancy.
What are the risks
Multiple pregnancy presents risks for both mother and fetuses. The chances for multiple pregnancy rise up to 29% in the case of insemination helped by superovulation.
The insemination procedures produce low risks for infections, risks for severe cramps, and risks of puncturing the uterus during IUI.
What to think about
Inseminations are the simplest procedures of ART. They don't require surgical interventions or anaesthesia.
Using a sperm donor
In case a sperm donor is required, he can be a known person or an anonymous.
- - Before the sperm from a donor who isn't a sexual partner (as from a relative, friend or sperm bank) is used, it needs to be frozen for 6 months. In those six months the donor will be tested twice for infectious diseases.
- - Fresh sperm are more effective than frozen sperm
- - A couple might want to choose sperm from a donor that resembles with the male partner.
