Male Infertility

About 15 percent of the couples are affected by infertility. In about one third of the cases, the problem comes from the male. This is called male infertility.

What causes male infertility?

Varicocele is one of the most frequent causes for male infertility and it means that the veins in the scrotum are dilated on one or both sides. The scrotum is the sack of skin underneath the penis that hosts the testicles. Varicocele causes heat inside the scrotum affecting the sperm production. The doctor must be consulted

Normally, a doctor's opinion should be asked for after one year of unsuccessful attempts. There is no problem though, if a doctor is seen sooner, in case of recognition of some factors.

Are men checked for infertility?

Men are also examined for infertility because if there is a problem, it is important to be treated. There are cases when men are discovered to have underlying medical problems that can cause infertility.

Evaluation of infertility

The specialist usually requires the medical records of the patient and proceeds to an examination and semen test. The semen test is usually taken more than once, pending on the results. It reveals the sperm count and quality.

Is male infertility treatable?

The male infertility is treatable in more than half the cases. Treatment can give a couple the chances to procreate through normal sexual intercourse. Some cases of male infertility can be surgically treated and even in outpatient procedure (no overnight staying in the hospital).
